April celebrates one whole year of volunteering with Planned Pethood, Inc. to photograph their rescue dogs seeking homes. I have photographed 34 PPI dogs. Each one has a unique story and I enjoy meeting all of them. Volunteering with rescue animals has truly given more back to me than I think I have given to them. I have learned so much about dog behavior, how to make them comfortable, direct their attention, and find a way to capture their personalities. I have also learned more about myself as a photographer and that has enabled me to fine tune my brand and find my voice as a professional.
Dogs are my niche. Pets are my specialty. Do I love photographing people? Absolutely! Bring on the families, the seniors, the weddings, the headshots. Am I good at photographing people? No doubt. But when I made a choice to give my time for free, I had to pick something that gives me life. I am passionate about dogs. I am filled up by spending time with them. I find meaning in loving them. I am always excited to learn new things about them.
If you aren’t interested in seeing lots of cute dog faces, stop scrolling. Otherwise, check out the full collection of foster pups I photographed over the last year.
